Team Sun Valley will build a 100kW solar project at the Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum, Idaho with the potential to be replicated by Ys and nonprofits nationally. This innovative model leverages private investment, reducing the Y's power bills at no cost. In addition, the “Community Solar” model enables community members to invest in the project and benefit from its returns – and green their own electricity. Even better: the energy savings can grow the LMI households able to receive Y memberships. This new model overcomes the very restrictive barriers for solar in Idaho: a challenging regulatory environment and very low grid power prices. If we can do it here, you can do it anywhere!
