Project Description

Project / Program Description

The purpose of this project is to create a replicable model to overcome the financial barriers to building solar for Non-Profits that serve Low to Moderate Income (LMI) Communities. Our team will unlock innovative and advantageous sources of capital to finance these solar projects while harnessing the tremendous passion, creativity and energy of college students to help solve societal problems. ReVision Energy, a certified B-Corp that is creating maximum positive impact in the communities its serves, has already partnered with colleges and universities in the northeast to create successful internships and to build some of the largest solar projects in the region. Through this Solar in Your Community Project, ReVision will work with college faculty to build teams of students who will spend part of their semester identifying and designing viable solar projects for non-profits that serve LMI communities, then helping to attract funding for the projects, and finally helping to build the solar projects. The anticipated outcomes of this project include a replicable model for building lowest possible cost solar for non-profits that serve LMI communities, functioning solar arrays on at least eight non-profits that prove the model, and a sizable cohort of college students who, as a result of their participation in the project, are empowered to help confront the societal problems climate change and underserved LMI communities.
