- Project / Program Description
The Solarize Sonoma - Solar Congregations Program (SSSC), lead by non-profit The Rahus Institute, is designed to engage and empower local area congregations to both solarize their own homes, while raising funds for a communal solar system and/or solar rooftops for low-to-moderate income households. After completing a SSSC-lead training, Solar Advisors from within each participating congregation will assist other members evaluate solar options for their own rooftops using WattPlan, a detailed online solar evaluation tool. Local qualified solar contractors then provide competitive bids and quality service. For each completed solar installation, a referal fee goes toward the Congregation's Solar Fund, which can help buydown a communal system or help subsidize a solar rooftop on a LMI household. Partnering with GRID Alternatives, congregation members can also volunteer to help install the actual system on LMI rooftops. Finally, Congregation members will have the opportunity to build their own Solar Notebook - Emergency Preparedness Kit - providing cell phone charging + lighting. Together, these activities help create a community movement toward shaping a clean energy future.
