Poudre Valley REA is a co-op, so our members already own our assets, from poles and wires to local generation. Community solar fits neatly into our over 75-year-old business model, but bringing broadly accessible, cost-effective community solar to our member-owners requires fresh ideas from pioneers like GRID Alternatives and the Colorado Energy Office. Together our team will implement a replicable and impactful program to broaden access to community solar, particularly for low-income and non-profit members.
Working together, our team will deliver a 1.5 MW(AC) project, with the majority of the system dedicated to non-profit and low-income co-op members. PVREA will control the project, reducing risk, lowering financing and transaction costs, and providing access to on-bill repayment. Upfront capital and other barriers to entry, especially for low-income and non-profit members, are greatly reduced, even eliminated, by using cooperative financing and resources. The project is the foundation of a program to bring truly cost effective, sustainable community solar to our members and co-op members across the country. .
