This project will bring 155 kilowatts of community solar to the San Pasqual Band of Indians' Reservation by October 2018. The San Pasqual Environmental Department will invite 25 low-income residents to receive net metering credits from a community solar farm. Those participants will pay for the system through the San Pasqual Community Development Financial Institution. CollectiveSun’s finance strategy will enable the tribe to benefit from the federal investment tax credit and obtain ownership of the solar system. Tribal residents will build the system and receive construction training from GRID Alternatives San Diego. The Center for Sustainable Energy will provide policy expertise. This project leverages existing San Diego Gas & Electric net metering rates and uses innovative financing strategies to overcome policy and finance barriers currently limiting community solar on tribal land.
