Project Description

Project / Program Description

The Renewable Energy Fund’s (REF) new incentive program is called “Community Renewables” and will be available for all Rhode Island residents who are National Grid customers. National grid is Rhode Island’s largest electric distribution company. In 2016, the RI legislature passed a 30 MW virtual net metering (VNM) program and the Public Utility Commission approved the proposed program design on March 10, 2017. The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources, National Grid and Rhode Island Housing has been developing the program parameters and on moving this project along. These groups are also our key partners in the program planning. The REF will be partnering with these groups to implement our “Community Renewables” Program. The REF will also be partnering with a number of renewable energy system developers who will assist with program marketing as well as system installation.

The goal of the REF Community Renewables Program is to fund community solar projects to expand the adoption of solar renewable energy systems for Rhode Island residents simultaneously creating new opportunities for renewable energy accessibility for the LMI communities.
